Revelations for Heightened Creativity

Michael Manahan

www.michaelmanahan.com

Michael Manahan, innovator and mainstay of Seattle's underground dance music community, produces music and events as nourishment for the soul. Hailing from the burgeoning San Francisco house scene of the early 90s, Michael rode the wave of positivity to Seattle and as UFO, co-produced the original northwest full-moon celebrations lasting 5 years, spreading the joy of music and connection with nature.

In 1993, Richard Sun inspired Michael to found the collective, A.T.O.I. Seattle (Ambient Temple of I-Magi-Nation), continuing his search for deeper meaning and relevance in everyday life. As a group of individuals dedicated to furthering consciousness, A.T.O.I. Seattle produced events and ambient rooms as artful experiences encompassing all the senses. In addition to producing these environments, Michael offered the participants the gift of introspection with both his epic trance sets on the main floor of many a gathering and his spacey, funk-infused downtempo in ambient rooms and weeklies in cafes and clubs across the city and beyond. As the A.T.O.I. Seattle collective grew, its members' paths diverged and a core group emerged called Starseed.

The focus of Starseed remained true to its roots with the exploration of consciousness that integrates with everyday life at the forefront, and Michael was a guiding force in producing the now legendary environments/gatherings that were Starseed. His musical style evolved from one of introspection to reflection, focusing out and upward with a deep tribal house where there was never a dull beat. Inspired by Starseed, numerous production/collective groups formed up and down the west coast, including Seelie Court, the effect of which is still being felt today.

In 2001, members of Seelie Court and Michael Manahan joined forces to form Starborne Productions, and the Starborne SoundSystem was born, a 10,000 watt Mackie Fussion P.A. run on veggie-fuel (bio diesel). Starborne Productions currently produces the Oracle Gatherings, a series of events based on archetypes relevant to the tribal dance culture that meld music, theater, performance, ritual, dance, and magic in one incredible night that resonates for a lifetime.

Although his modesty may make him claim otherwise, Michael's leadership and musical talent is the common thread through all this history. As a music producer, Michael co-produced, Integratron, a 12-inch released on Visible records in 1994 and recently remixed, Rah Shilo, for Zion's Gate records with two original tracks on the 12-inch released in 2002 entitled, Still Tha King, and Right Now. As a d.j., Michael can throw down with the best of them, hanging with such heavyweights as Kruder & Dorfmeister, the Ninja Tune Tour, DJ Spooky, Loop Guru, Banco de Gaia, and the San Francisco Wicked crew. In 2002, Michael annually co-produces the DanceSafe stage at the world-famous Seattle Hempfest with an estimated 190,000 people in attendance last year.

Holding several residencies in Seattle at various times, Michael has also led the dance journey as d.j for many folks up and down the west coast, from San Fran to Ashland to Eugene to Portland to Vancouver, B.C. and even Hawaii. His style remains a deep, tribal house dipped in funk, peppered with bhangra, accompanied by beats that hit you like a rippling earthquake, and you can't help but shake it all night long!

Osiris Indriya

www.osirisindriya.com

Osiris Indriya began his path into the West Coast Tribal Dance Culture while in a suburban high school outside of Seattle, Washington. Osiris came upon an album entitled Mu-Ziq vs. The Auteurs. The next thing he knew, this electric bass playing indie-rocker was spending college money on a keyboard and sequencing software, and began to crank out experiments in sound.

After graduation, he was off to Cornish College of the Arts in Seattle, to study Classical and New Music Composition with a focus on Electronic Media. During his first year, he found himself composing music for marbles (Spherical Movements: A Sonata for Marbles), working at Orpheum Records on Broadway, and experimenting in the school recording studio. At the end of 1997, Osiris made the most important decision of his musical career.

Spending most of what was left of his college fund, Osiris bought turntables and a mixer. DJ Pike was borne. He specialized in IDM and Atmospheric Drum & Bass, and began to play at House Parties and Coffee Shops as well as a slot on the fledgling Groovetech.com internet radio and distribution site. On his 19th birthday, DJ Pike went to his first underground gathering by a local community of faeries and artists called Seelie Court. He decided that this was his community, and he would make music for Seelie Court as he imagined it to be.

Seelie Court continued to play an important role in his life as he immersed himself deeper into the organization. A ceremonial journey through Egypt led Pike to a metamorphosis and Osiris was born. Inspired by the combining of music and intentional spirituality, Osiris went on to co-found the Oracle Gatherings with performance artist Isis Indriya and DJ Michael Manahan.

As a buyer for JAM Records, Osiris' collection of sounds began to expand into many genres and he found himself mixing sounds that blurred the lines between Progressive, Techno, House, Breaks and Trance with Tribal Rhythms. His proficiency has allowed him to play in a wide range of settings including the Club Scene, House Music Events, Trance Parties and Workshops. Osiris has been featured with underground artists such as Brian, Brad, andTrevorof L.A. Moontribe, Manoj of Uplift in Portland Oregon, trance goddess Phoenix Olivia in Vancouver B.C., and Lorin (bassnectar) from Santa Cruz/SF. He has opened twice forKJ, the psytrance icon from SF as well as ambient producer Adham Shaikh from B.C.

Osiris has also been featured alongside recording artists Human Blue (Spiral Trax, chill code - Sweden), Ganga Giri (Australia) and SunControlSpecies (Zenon, Iboga - Australia), as well as Antix, Beat Bizarre, and DJ Banel from Danish Progressive label Iboga Records where he is now an official label DJ. He is a weekly resident at Contour Night Club in Seattle for IMPULSE Thursdays. All this while playing at forest, desert, beach, and indoor gatherings, club nights, and festivals up and down the west coast, as well as internationally including the Double 6 in Kuta, Baliand Shambhala Music Fesival in Nelson, British Columbia.

Driven to take Seattle to the next level, Osiris has been deep into creating several projects. He has teamed up with Infinite Connections to bring the best of Europe's tribal progressive trance music and world class art to the Pacific Northwest in a series of events called IOSIS Art Parties. All this has helped inspire the release of his all original progressive and downtempo CD, "Reach Within".

In addition to a blossoming music career, Osiris is a painter and digital artist with regular gallery showings with his works which describe the journey of the seeker discovering the truth of his being. Amidst all the projects, being a DJ and producing original music combined with his spiritual studies continue to be Osiris' focus.

Michael has worked with northwest DJ Michael Manahan on a project called ARC, an electronic jam band fusing improvisation, textures, melodies and sound scapes with beats and percussion. Michael has four self produced CDs - “Dreamelodia”, “Atlantis Sub-terrain”, “Shift” and “Another Glowing Day”.

Kevin Hills

Kevin Hills

(Seethrusound - Santa Monica, CA)

Kevin Hills started mixing sort of by chance and was making mellow mixes to chillout to. He enjoyed the idea of creating seamless, flowing stories. Fourteen years later he feels the same approach but has branched out into many different genres like, house, downtempo, breaks, drum and bass, techno, progressive, and wherever good music leads me. His aim to be as versatile as possible and is very comfortable playing different levels of music, from energizing dance floor, soulful groove, to soothing chillout. He enjoys the incredible creative outlet that mixing allows. These days there are so many DJ's and so much music is designed to mix together without much creativity. He is much more interested in sharing great songs with character than he is in playing boring, tracky sets. He likes to feel the vibe as well as try to keep things interesting by playing his most favorite inspiring tracks.
